Mad to Be Saved
Andromeda Episode Review
In which there are crazy people and Dylan has crap taste in women.
What Happened
Andromeda rescues a vessel fleeing a hellish planet, but the passengers turn out to be escaped mental patients, who take Harper hostage and threaten to blow up the ship. Dylan eventually exposes one of the patients as the devious Doctor who tortured them. There is a method to the madness, however, as the patients are revealed to have been programmed with the locations of the planet's defense satellites.
The Good
- That's Andromeda's "My captain is a skank" sigh.
- "I had an epiphany like that once, but I beat someone mercilessly until it went away." Tyr is rightly unimpressed with the Jet Li wanna-be.
- Everyone wandering into Dylan's quarters for a visit. He kicks them all out - and Tyr just watches, amused.
- "I'm not cut out for torture." Wrong choice of words, Harper.
The Bad
- And the reason that the ship's forward momentum doesn't cause it to plow right through the back of the hanger deck and into the hallway?
- Tyr has lost his forearm bones. They went through all that in the season finale about the guy who had to have surgery, so we know they're not just attached to the arm-bands. Did I miss the explanation for this?
- Andromeda can't help corral these people by closing a few doors?
- The New Commonwealth's been around for less than a year and they already have bureaucratically-condoned war criminals wandering around doing sinister experiments?
The Cliche
- Right. The Pretty Coherent One, named Angelica. She has mutant hair.
Best Lines
Andromeda: "Human brains in a box."
Dylan: "Well, that's certainly ... gross."
So What
It was a clever explanation for what happened and lots of twists to get to it, but the ending was less than satisfactory. How did Angelica get her hands on Dr. Whathisface, anyways? And how long did it take her to torture him to insanity? No one noticed she was missing? Andromeda didn't know what she was doing?
