Angel Episode Review

In which Fred has Family Issues.

What Happened

Fred's parents come to the hotel looking for her. When she spots them, however, she packs a bag and bolts. Angel and the others are suspicious of Ma and Pa Burkle, but take them along when they go looking for her. Angel goes off on his own to search the sewers, where he attracts the attention of a bug creature.

Angel and company finally figure that out that Fred might have gone to see the Host for "guidance and advice." Lorne is not happy to see Gunn and refuses to go along with the cover story that he and Angel do "monster movies" together. He tells Angel that Fred doesn't want to see her parents, but directs them to the bus station.

Fred breaks down when she sees her parents, wailing that if they are here, then her experiences in Pylea must have been real. In the midst of everything, the bug creature attacks. The fight scene ends pretty quickly after Fred's mother flattens the bug with a bus.

Feeling responsible and out of place, Fred decides that she should go home with her parents. In the cab to the airport, however, Fred notices the bug blood on her shirt has turned to crystals and connects that to a severed head Angel brought back to the hotel.

Turns out the bugs are just looking for their larvae, which were hidden in the severed head. Everyone is impressed by Fred's deductive reasoning skills and she realizes that she'd rather stay in Los Angeles.

What We Learned

• The more you're aware of time, the slower it moves, which might make time travel possible, but only if you concentrate really hard.
• Massacres are a lot like sitting through Godfather III. Once is enough.
• Cordelia's never actually ridden in a school bus, but she hears they're very nice.
• Lorne is not some mystical vending machine. He has a heart, granted that it's located in his left butt check, but he has one.
• There's the occasional demon that tries to kill us with pillows, but those are few and far between.
• Don't be silly, it's just a severed head.
• Fred was just this nice quiet kind of crazy. Angel found that soothing.
• Cordelia could be soothing. She could soothe your ass off.
• That would all be fine and Darwinian, except that Angel killed the Dursler demon.
• Spiro Agnew was a Grothnar demon.

Best Lines

Cordelia: "Next up, multiple stab wounds. Angel!"
Angel: "Oh! My turn!"
Cordelia: "What a dork."
