The House Always Wins

Angel Episode Review

In which Angel gets possessed again.

What Happened

Angel, Fred and Gunn head to Las Vegas to find out why Lorne hasn't been returning their calls. It turns out Lorne has become the star attraction at a casino where the owners are trading in the stolen destinies of their patrons. Watching Angel's destiny get stolen, celestial-Cordelia influences fate to help him out.

Everything solved, the gang returns to LA, where they find Cordi waiting in the lobby with no memory of who they are.

The Good

  • Lorne singing "It's Not Easy Being Green."
  • Wes and Lilah. He was all laughy/smiley and I thought it was cute, until the phone sex started.

The Bad

  • "Aw, for crap's sake." Cordelia thinking Angel's hearing her, but he's really talking to Fred and Gunn. That one was funny, but overall her voice-over was a little annoying.
  • I'm already bored with Angel's name-dropping.
  • Get a grip, Gunn. There really isn't any reason to jump that far down Lorne's throat.

The Cliche

  • Angel gets possessed again.
  • Cordelia's amnesia? This will totally depend on what they do next week.

Best Lines

Fred: "They must think it's all makeup, like Blue Man Group ... You don't suppose...?"
Angel: "Only two of them."

Angel: "This place was so much friendlier when the mob ran it."

Lorne: "Fluffy, the dog you don't have. The universally recognized code for 'I'm being held prisoner, come get me.'"

What Did I Think?

Lorne's performance was nice. The Stolen Destiny story was interesting in theory. I wish we could have seen the reaction to Angel's destiny being put on the black market. I'm not sure, however, that having your hero spend half the episode dropping names (obnoxious) and the other half staring into space (duuuuh) counts as a good idea.
