Slouching Towards Bethleham
Angel Episode Review
In which Cordi's back! Aren't we all... happy?
What Happened
Cordelia returns to Earth, with no memory of who she is. Angel tries to hide the truth about his being a vampire and Angel Investigations being in the demon hunting business. When he fails, she freaks and leaves the hotel with Connor. Hearing about Cordelia's return, Lilah puts her own plan into motion. Aware that Lorne has "read" Cordi, Lilah has the demon's mind drained for information about where Cordelia has been and why she has returned.
The Good
- Connor looking for family. He seems lonely. Of course, he also seems weird as hell, but hey...
- Cordelia gets believably creeped by the odd goings on around the hotel.
- Cordelia singing "The Greatest Love of All" so Lorne can read her. Love it.
- "You lost the bet." Wesley and Lilah getting curiouser and curiouser.
- "It's never simple." Wesley confronting Lilah over her bait and switch.
The Bad
- "Hey, how about that giant snake?" Cute, but why was Cordi having her yearbook signed after the graduation ceremony?
- Watch the hands, kid. If Cordi and Connor get any closer, I'm gonna be ill.
- Both brooding at the window. Like father, like son.
The Cliche
- Why was Lorne's man-eating guest allowed to wander around the hotel unsupervised? Because someone had to attack Cordelia, of course.
- See? This is why the whole Lying to People to Protect Them Thing doesn't work. One person like Connor comes along and tells her the truth and Cordi decides she'll just run off with him.
What Did I Think?
Uneven and slow. Hopefully, all these seemingly disparate elements will come together later on this season.
