Through the Looking Glass

Angel Episode Review

In which Cordelia is in charge.

What Happened

Cordelia's got it good in Pylea and she frees her friends. Wesley snoops around the library and is perturbed to find evidence that Wolfram and Hart is in business in Pylea, possibly connected to the priesthood. He and Gunn manage to get out of the castle, but Cordelia is caught. The priests inform her that she has no real power and is expected to mate with the Groosalugg.

Angel is welcomed by Lorne's family, until he refuses to kill the "cow" they have picked out for dinner. He saves the young woman instead and rides off into the hills with her as Lorne is arrested. Angel realizes that she is Winifred Burkle, the girl from Cordelia's vision. Having survived alone in Pylea for the past few years, Fred is a little skittery.

When the Groosalugg shows up, he turns out to be a big gorgeous guy instead of a horrible monster, making Cordelia happy. She's still reluctant to comshukk with Groo, however, so the priests provide her with some encouragement: cooperate or wind up like Lorne, whose head is delivered to her on a platter.

What We Learned

  • The meta-physical laws that govern our world don't apply here.
  • Angel's hair always looks like that.
  • To the people of Pylea, a Host is just one more thing to lay your eggs in.
  • It sounds dirty, if you ask Gunn.
  • Angel is just a regular Hans Christian Tarantino.
  • Nice to be seen as a hero without all the pesky little moral ambiguities.
  • Groosaluggs are hard to buy for.
  • Cordelia wants Wesley to find her a dimension where some demon doesn't want to impregnate her with his spawn.
  • Somebody here isn't real, and Fred suspects it is Angel.
  • So with Fred being dead and Angel being not real, she can't be expected to have some big conversation right now.
  • Cordelia is all cow.

Best Lines

Angel: "Prophecy. Great. Cuz that always goes well."

Lorne's Mom: "Your father was right. We ate the wrong son."

Gunn: "You having a Blair Witch moment?"

Wesley: "I told you! Gunn and I are not reconnaissance cows!"

What Did I Think?

"Numfar, do the dance of joy." Pylea bugged the hell out of me the first time around because I was so bummed that they hadn't finished up Darla/Lindsey/Wolfram & Hart at the end of season.

I got over that.
