Halloween

Buffy Episode Review

In which this is just... neat.

What Happened

Feeling upstaged by Cordelia during a coffee date with Angel, Buffy takes advantage of Halloween to prove she can "coif with the best of them" by dressing up like a an eighteenth century debutante. Unfortunately, an old friend of Giles has chosen Halloween to cast a spell that turns everyone into whatever they dressed up as, leaving the Slayer helpless.

The Good

  • Angel does tell Cordi right off that he's waiting for Buffy (with a rather panicked look; he knows what she's up to) and he goes over to Buffy as soon as he sees her. Too bad Buffy's too far along her "Poor me" rant to notice.
  • "Miss Calendar said you were a babe." Buffy using Giles' crush against him to cover as Willow sneaks in to steal his journal on Angel. I won't even ask how she knew which one to grab.
  • Xander has muscles? When did that happen?
  • "I'm a ghost." "The ghost of what, exactly?" Willow explaining what's going on to Giles.
  • "Hello, Ripper." And Giles suddenly becomes way more interesting.
  • "Be seeing you." Promise. Promises.

The Bad

  • Belle Buffy. What happened to Buffy's hair? Shouldn't it still be all curly? Or did she mangle it in her confusion? And if Angel is Irish, what's up with her Southern accent?

The Cliche

  • It's slightly unbelievable that Buffy and Larry, then Angel, Xander and Cordelia, then Willow, then Spike and his demon children all showed up in the same part of town.

Best Lines

Cordelia: "Angel's a vampire? But the cuddly kind, right? Like a Care Bear with fangs."

Dru: "Do you love my insides? The parts you can't see?"
Spike: "Eyeballs to entrails, love."

What Did I Think?

One of the best. Intros Ethan Rayne, teases again with Oz, and has loads of fun with the alternate identities of the main characters. I just wish Buffy hadn't sniveled quite as much as she did.
