Innocence
Buffy Episode Review
In which Angel goes bad.
What Happened
After achieving perfect happiness with Buffy, Angel loses his soul and becomes the evil Angelus once more. Joining forces with Drusilla and Spike, Angelus persuades them to put off their plans to use the Judge to destroy the world for a day so that he can torment Buffy.
The Good
- Angelus. As he says later, "things are about to get very interesting."
- "It just means that you'd rather be with someone you hate than with me." Willow catching Xander and Cordelia together. That's going to leave a mark.
- "Like I really wanted to stick around after that." Speaking of cruel, the scene between Angel and Buffy was emotionally brutal.
- Jenny's argument with her Uncle. Like, he couldn't have mentioned the whole "perfect happiness" loophole before?
- Angel luring Willow to him, down the dark hallway, then facing off with Buffy. (And about the next three scenes rock, too.) Serious creepy atmosphere.
- "Willow kissage." Oz sees what's behind Willow's offer to make out, but manages to say no in a way that only makes her fall even harder for him.
- "What's that do?" The Judge really was just a big smurfy MacGuffin. And Buffy with a rocket launcher. Best present ever.
The Bad
- The Smurf really didn't do much and having killed him off so efficiently, they were left scrambling to come up with a whole new way for Akathla to be scary for the season finale.
The Cliche
- He really couldn't have mentioned the whole "perfect happiness" loophole before? It's in the TV Bible: Thou shalt not give out vital information that might prevent drama before it happens.
Best Lines
Drusilla: "I'm naming all the stars. But I've given them all the same name and there's terrible confusion."
Spike: "You can't see the stars, love. That's the ceiling. Also, it's day."
Buffy: "You must be disappointed in me."
Giles: "No. No. I know that you loved him and he has proven more than once he loved you. If it's guilt you want, Buffy, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is support and respect."
Joyce: "So what did you do on your birthday?"
Buffy: "I got older."
What Did I Think?
"I having a thought," says Xander. "Now, I'm having a plan." The lights go out. "Now, I'm having a wiggins."
Just when you thought you had it all figured out, just when you thought you could guess what was going to happened next, it all goes wonky on you.
Angel doesn't just go evil, he goes seriously Evil. He gets mean. And nasty. Most of his venom is directed at Buffy, but then he goes after Willow? Poor, sweet, innocent Willow - and does anyone doubt that he'd rip her throat out?
Yeah. I'm having a wiggins, too.
