Invisible Girl
Buffy Episode Review
In which Cordelia become vaguely human.
What Happened
Cordelia becomes the target of a girl she bullied, who has developed the ability to become invisible.
The Good
- Xander and Willow's memories of how Cordelia always wants to be the center to attention. It's nice to be reminded that they had lives and friendships before the stories we see.
- Cordelia sounds actually upset about Mitch being hurt, then segues into wondering what Mitch will look like in their prom pictures. So, is she really that shallow, or is she tacking on the last bit to cover?
- "I was kind of hoping you were in a gang." Cordelia's plea for help.
The Bad
- "It's not her arm I want to be on." And we no longer feel sorry Mitch. We looked forward to seeing him get bashed at least once.
- Marcy is the "most recent" disappearance, but she disappeared six months ago. Surely there have been missing people more recent than that. What about Jesse (vamped, turned to dust)? Or the other boy the Preying Mantis Lady snatched?
- Marcy moves pretty fast. She manages to lure Giles, Willow, and Xander down to the boiler room and lock them in, then get back to Cordelia's makeshift dressing room in time to snatch her before she's changed.
The Cliche
- Why is Cordelia working on her dress at school? What happened to Snyder's determination to chase all the students off-campus after school hours? Because Buffy has to be able to spy on her and make sad face.
- From now on, whenever a character makes a show of hearing a noise, then looking in a mirror, it means Angel is standing right behind them.
- "You're a thundering loony." Buffy doesn't waste time trying to convince Marcy to turn over a new leaf; she just sails in and thwacks her.
Best Lines
Snyder: "There are no dead students here - this week."
What Did I Think?
"Beats being alone all by yourself." It's inevitable that Cordi became more sympathetic, but her growth throughout the series is just as important as the others and this is the beginning of her becoming a real part of the gang.
