Buffy Episode Review

In which a bunch of fifteen year olds walk into a demon bar.

What Happened

Buffy and Spike train the potential Slayers. Willow and the others search for a girl in Sunnydale who may also be a Chosen One. For a little while, Dawn thinks that she may be one of the Potentials, but it turns out to be one of her classmates.

The Good

• Buffy: "You're like a small dog, begging for snausages." Perfect description of Andrew, and one of only a handful of laugh lines in this episodes.
• Amanda's the potential and Dawn was just in the way. Thank you. It would have been the final straw to blithely dub Dawn a Slayer. On the other hand, there would have been logic to it (Buffy is a Slayer; Dawn was created from Buffy) and it would have removed one less Potential that I had to keep track of.
• That last speech. Xander just rocks. Aw.

The Bad

• Long long previouslies. Nothing really happened, how can there be so much to recap?
• Buffy? Do you really want to be groping Spike in front of everyone?
• Buffy needs to stop the lectures. Now.
• Buffy's talk with Amanda about the boy who's picking on her. Way to make it all about you, Buff. And way to foreshadow a lame-ass reunion with Spike.
• Michelle Tractenberg is getting very skinny these days.

The Cliche

• Locking the Potentials into the tomb, contrasted Dawn's battle. A great set of scenes, but -oh- how long it took to get here.

What Did I Think?

The pay-off was worth it - barely.
