Reptile Boy
Buffy Episode Review
In which Buffy has crap taste in men.
What Happened
After an argument with Angel, Buffy agrees to accompany Cordelia to a frat party at a local college. Unknown to either of them, the frat brothers are planning to sacrifice them to the giant demon snake in the basement.
The Good
- "So how does the water buffalo fit in again?" Buffy, Xander and Willow on their night off, watching Indian movies and munching snacks.
- Calli runs pretty fast. And someone gave her decent shoes, not those high-heeled boots they always seem to get stuck wearing.
- Giles at least trying to talk with Buffy. He is giving off all kinds of parental vibes. I love their scenes together.
- The only truly creepy scene as Richard hovers over an unconscious Buffy.
- "And you! You're going to live forever. You don't have time for a cup of coffee?!" Willow's hilarious outburst, blasting Giles and Angel for how they treat Buffy.
The Bad
- Richard and Tom; Dopey and Sleazy. Tom just tries too hard, and, as Buffy points out, he talks way too much.
- Giles and Buffy's practice session. Are we supposed to believe that Buffy's skills are all instinct? If not, Giles should not get his butt kicked quite this quickly. What kind of teacher can he be to her if he's that useless?
- "When you kiss me, I want to die." Way too much melodrama in Buffy and Angel's fight in the cemetery, especially after the arguments in "Some Assembly Required," which were both funny and serious.
The Cliche
- That was one really fake snake. Seriously. Giant snakes just aren't that scary anymore.
Best Lines
Buffy: "I told one lie. I had one drink."
Giles: "And you were nearly devoured by a giant demon reptile. The words 'Let that be a lesson' are entirely redundant at this juncture."
What Did I Think?
A couple of cute moments, but far too much junk in between.
