Buffy Episode Review

In which I kind of wish they were all dead.

What Happened

Buffy collects the potential Slayers in Sunnydale, but unknowingly includes the First, masquerading as one of the girls. After "Eve" fills the potential Chosen Ones' heads with horror stories, Buffy realizes that she had better come up with a win before everyone falls apart. Managing to defeat the uber-vamp summoned by the First, Buffy regains her charges' trust.

The Good

  • Demon: "I remember. You wore pink."
Anya: "Those were entrails." Funny scene as she and Giles hunt for information.
  • Andrew complains about being lonely, and Dawn snaps, "Then, maybe you shouldn't have killed your only friend." Ouch.
  • The eyeball thing was icky. Giles was less of a pod person in this scene; he actually seemed to care.
  • Rhona, however, can stay.

The Bad

  • Kennedy is annoying - and so is Molly. Most of the others don't even get names. Can they be killed now?
  • Andrew: "I'm bored. Episode One bored." We know, Andrew. We know.
  • Eve was the most annoying. I'd believe she's Evil.

The Cliche

  • There'd be no fight if... they'd scheduled Rhona's arrival for the daytime. Or given her a plane ticket.
  • Asking me to be impressed that a character suddenly became so cool, when it depends on them acting really really stupid to start off with solely for the purpose of showing off the contrast. For example, the wire Buffy used to slice the uber-vamp's head off was a nice touch. It would have been nicer if she'd brought a weapon in the first place.

What Did I Think?

Too much time wasted on the Potentials; too little on the characters the audience already cares about.
