Flushed

Coupling Episode Review

In which Susan intends this breast satirically.

What Happened

Steve is trying to dump his girlfriend Jane, who refuses to take "It's over," for an answer. She keeps suggesting sex, and - well, that gets in the way a bit.

Susan, meanwhile, talks with her guy, Patrick, who wants to slow down their relationship. Susan didn't know they were in a relationship; she wasn't even being faithful. They were only seeing each other once a week. How is that a sex life?

Steve and Jane wind up in the Ladies Room, having a quickie. When he needs a condom, Steve pops out of the stall to get one and bumps into Susan. They remember meeting at an office Christmas party, and Steve takes the opportunity to ask her out. Steve's best friend Jeff, who works with Susan, points out that she will not be as understanding as Steve might prefer if she does the math on his break-up with Jane.

After hearing Steve's final message on her anwering machine, Jane tracks Steve down on his date with Susan, forcing him to introduce the women to each other. Learning that Steve is on a date, Jane dumps him. I just wish you would have said something, she sighs as the rest of the gang appears. What do I have to do for some privacy, Susan asks, flash a breast?

Everyone supports that idea.

Finally, Susan agrees - but wants it noted that she intends this breast satirically. Patrick suggests the right breast rather than the left and Susan opens her blouse... just as the waiter walks by.

What We Learned

  • One swallow doesn't make a summer.
  • Every morning, your face has slipped a little bit more.
  • Sally only ever smiles at single men, so that she can justify the loss of elasticity.
  • Age brings you more to shave.
  • Sex can be very stressful for men.
  • Always good idea to see a friend's breasts unsupported.
  • Let's just take it one breast at a time.

Best Lines

Sally: "Mary Kelly thinks you're a complete idiot."
Patrick: "Then, why does she keep looking at my ass."
Sally: "She's lip reading."

Susan: "You have a girlfriend?"
Steve: "At the moment."
Susan: "At the moment?"
Steve: "Well, you're early."

What Did I Think?

Smuttier than Friends, but with as much heart. Susan, Sally, and Jane's utter lack of anything resembling shame regarding their sex lives is refreshing.
