Gotcha
Coupling Episode Review
In which Steve had no chance.
What Happened
Steve is invited to someone's wedding and panics over what kind of ideas that will put into Susan's head. He tries playing cool at breakfast and fails utterly. And on top of that, it's their first aniversary. Susan wants to go out and do something special.
Susan tells Sally and Jane about the dinner. When Sally freaks that Susan may be married before her, Susan assures Sally that Steve won't be proposing. She is annoyed, however, when Jane agrees a little too emphatically.
Patrick runs into a woman he once had a fling with and is horrified when she doesn't seem to remember him. You'd think she remembered he was banging both her and her daughter. She finally admits that she does remember; she was just playing with him. Send my apologies to your daughter as well, he says.
I am the daughter, she tells him.
Susan slinks in to dinner, all red dress and gorgeous hair. Steve is left stuttering, but - to her disappointment - not completely incapacitated. She has just managed to get a "rise" out of him when he is summoned to take a call at the front desk.
Steve gets up, thinking it's Jeff with his "get out of proposing free" emergency call, but all he gets when he sputters is silence. His next guess is that it's Jane playing with him, so Steve tells her to get over him. Susan is the woman he wants to marry.
More silence, then Susan slinks up behind him, carrying her cell phone: gotcha.
What Did We Learn
- It's like death. You accept that it's coming, but you get kind of uncomfortable when people start talking dates.
- Lesbians don't eat people.
- There's a fine line between sex talk and just mentioning body parts.
Best Lines
Steve: "In the field of human relationships, what is the most frightening thing that can some through your door?"
Patrick: "Volkswagon."
What Did I Think?
Killer ending. Susan really was the brains in this relationship.
