Earth Final Conflict Episode Review

In which there are flashbacks.

What Happened

While Zo'or and Sandoval worry that Beckett's CVI may be breaking down, she goes rock climbing in a remote location as an attempt to clear her head. Slipping, she falls and is mortally wounded. In her mind, Doors and Liam argue in a court of law that she is guilty of crimes against humanity. Beckett recalls the reasons she became a Taelon Companion, her relationship with Sandoval, and her determination that Lili is a Resistance spy. Liam finally finds her lying on the floor of the cave. As she dies, he shows her the truth about their connection.

What Did I Think?

Beckett, Liam and Sandoval were always my favorites and this episode dates from back when they were actually moving forward with this sub-plot. I know I harp on it, but Sandoval was a central character, the only one to make it through all five seasons. The one good move they made in shoving Liam down everyone's throat was to connect the two of them. (It is, by the way, such a tease to have Sandoval show up right at the end and then fade out without giving any indication of how much he's heard.)

It's too bad Beckett had to die, but this is a very nice send-off. A clever use of clips demonstrates what we know about her, while the dialogue fills in things we didn't know. The arguments regarding free will, choice, the natureof soldiers to follow orders, etc. are hardly new, but the writers do a good job with them and these are (or could be) fairly central issues for several of the characters, particularly Sandoval.
