Beware of Dog
Farscape Episode Review
In which there is a monster.
What Happened
The crew trades for food on a commerce world, but worry about a local parasite getting onboard. Chiana produces a solution to the situation: a goblin-like Vorc, that is supposed to hunt the parasites. When John claims to have seen a large green monster in one of the vents, Aeryn thinks that he's gone space mad. Chiana and D'Argo try to use the Vorc to hunt the monster, but it runs off to bond with the reluctant Aeryn. Noticing that the Vorc disappears every time the monster is around, they conclude that the Vorc is the monster which is the parasite they've been tricked into bringing onboard.
Rygel and D'Argo are attacked and poisoned, but Zhaan can't find any toxins in the Vorc to account for it. John and Aeryn hunt the Vorc through the ship, finally figuring out that the the monster is the Vorc's battle form, while quick little goblin form is for sniffing and chasing.
They shoot and kill the Vorc, just as it leads them to the site of the true infestation, a giant cocoon surrounding poor Rygel. Rushing up to the lab, they drive the parasite away from Zhaan and kill it. Zhaan is able to heal D'Argo, who snuggles with Chiana.
When questioned about some of his odd behavior during the search, John admits to Aeryn that he keeps seeing Scorpius standing in shadows, chatting with him. He thinks it's just after-effects of the Aurora Chair, and she reluctantly takes his word for it that he isn't going crazy.
What We Learned
- The human doesn't want to talk.
- Our parasite problems are solved.
- Pilot has never known Aeryn to exaggerate.
- Perhaps Chiana should invest in a leash.
- Maybe a tracking device of some kind.
- Rygel is delighted Crichton's been vindicated.
- Lassie here is trying to communicate with us.
- As long as they both know it's leading them into a trap.
- John isn't going to lose his mind. It's all he's got left.
What Did I Think?
I thought the final scene of Aeryn and John cradling the Vorc like a baby was a bit much.
