Mind the Baby

Farscape Episode Review

In which Crais does not get to keep the Porsche.

What Happened

Aeryn has rescued Crichton and D'Argo, but needed Crais' help to do it. Leaving them on a mining asteroid, she sneaks off to help Crais bond with Talyn. Needless to say, Crichton and D'Argo are seriously pissed when they find out.

Crais is negotiating with Scorpius, arguing about John and Talyn's fates. With D'Argo keeping an eye on Aeryn, John captures Crais and locks him up on the newly returned Moya. Chiana is thrilled to see John; Zhaan's been very loopy lately and Rygel's been Rygel.

When Scorpius pulls back out of sensor range, Talyn leaves the protection of the asteroid field, pursued by his mother. Talyn demands that Crais be returned to him, so Aeryn volunteers to play Mother to Crais' Father and keep him from corrupting Talyn too much. Talyn has his own ideas, however, and chooses to implant a control chip in Crais' neck, giving him complete control.

Aeryn returns to Moya, just as Talyn starbursts away. Scorpius, who delayed because he thought the Leviathans couldn't starburst with the baby, is too late to stop Moya from escaping as well.

What We Learned

  • D'Argo isn't dead.
  • This asteroid gets a nine on atmosphere, but only two on food and water.
  • They should never have let Crais live.
  • Aeryn has eyes.
  • As John once said, he'd rather go down with a swing.
  • A Peacekeeper Command Carrier is slightly more than a "risk."
  • D'Argo's coma was more interesting than rock, paper, scissors.
  • Scorpius' patience is formidable, but not infinite.
  • May your afterlife be almost as pleasant as mine.
  • The flesh is kind of important.
  • Rock, paper, scissors is no fun to play with yourself.
  • A containment cell is a fine place for reflection.
  • The next level will always be there. This one will not.

Best Lines

John: "You wanna have a mid-life crisis? Fine. Ditch the firm, head off to Maui, shack up with a super-model, but you do not get to keep the Porsche."

Question

If Crais told Aeryn where the mining asteroid was, how come he tells Scorpius that he doesn't know where John is? Was he lying? Fine. Of course, he was lying, but why?

What Did I Think?

Great season opener.
