Glee Episode Review
In which there are thumbs UP!
What Happened
After Rachel insults his choreography, Will gets even more bummed than before about his lack of "confidence," especially in light of his impending fatherhood. While moping in the teacher's lounge, Will is inspired to take Football Coach Ken, Howard from Linens N Things, and the thumbless shop teacher Henri and form an acapella boy(ish) band. Former Glee coach Sandy tries to join, but they refuse until he offers to hook them up with Josh Groban.
Having lost Will, the kids are easy prey for Quinn and Santana's suggestion that they hire a professional chroreographer named Dakota Stanley to work on their routines. Dakota turns out to be a little troll of a man, who starts off by telling Artie he's off the team then follows it up by dubbing Finn "Frankenteen." Just as everyone is about to quit, Rachel grows a spine and tells Dakota where to shove off.
Encouraged by Quinn and Santana, Mercedes asks Kurt if they are dating or not. After mumbling something about being in love with someone else, Kurt finally admits that he's gay. Why didn't you just say so? Mercedes asks.
When Howard quits and Henri has another shop-related accident, Will recruits Finn and footballer Puck to perform at the PTA meeting. (Puck is on the prowl for lonely moms. Puck is kind of gross. Hot. But gross.) Sandy promises that Josh Groban is looking for an opening act, but Josh really just wants to give Sandy a restraining order. He did enjoy the show, though.
Satisfied with his simple accomplishments, Will redoubles his committment to Glee Club, finding everyone much more open to his "clap, ball change" after experiencing Dakota. Meanwhile, Quinn and Santana, who instigated the whole thing at Sue's request, have to report back their failure to destroy Glee.
She revokes their tanning privileges.
What I Covet
- Kurt's coat with buttons. Not the sweater though. The sweater made him look like a chauffeur on a fox hunt.
What Amused Me
- Victor Garber. Bow ties.
- Bitchy Quinn.
- Will being a little less saintly. He is more fun he is not always on the side of good and pure.
- Dramatic DRUMS! I love dramatic DRUMS!
- Color Me Badd!? My inner tween just squeed herself.
- Finn's dorky dancing. Embrace the dork.
What Surprised Me
- How did I not notice how deep Matthew Morrison's dimples are?
What Made Me Sniffle
Kurt and Mercedes. Their relationship hit all the emotional bits without going into Afterschool Special land. Chris Colfer can look sadder than anyone. I used to think that Stargate's Christopher Judge had that prize sewn up. That man can make every feature he has turn down. Even his earlobes are making sad face. But Chris Colfer adds an extra layer of vulnerability that just makes you want to give him a hug and some jellybeans.
What Did I Think?
Nice, clean plot with some sweet character moments.
