Duets

Glee Episode Review

In which Quinn has good taste in men and cruel things are said about Grease 2. Glee finally regains momentum on the character and plot side.

What Happened

Will has the kids pair off and compete to see who can muster the best duet. The prize? An all-you-can-eat coupon for Breadstix.

On the outs with Brittany, Santana recruits Mercedes - insisting that she wants those breadsticks, dammit. That leaves Kurt free to go after new guy Sam, a tactic that worries Finn. Agreeing that Sam needs to have a positive first experience or he'll flee Glee, Rachel helps Finn set Sam up as Quinn's partner. After a heart to heart with his dad, Kurt lets go his dream date (but not his insistence that Sam is not a natural surfer blonde) and performs a Victor/Victoria number with himself.

Brittany tells Artie that his joining the football team has put him on her radar. Still upset about Tina and Mike, Artie is willing to be seduced but thinks less of himself and of Brittany when it's over.

With Finn and Rachel conspiring to throw the competition, Sam and Quinn practice cute until he tries to kiss her. This triggers a minor meltdown from Quinn, who is still shy about the events of last year. She insists that she's not looking for a boyfriend, but when they find themselves at Breadstix together, she agrees to count it as their first date.

The Good

  • Finn pointing out the Stalker Boy behavior to Kurt. Harsh, but true. (On the other hand, I don't know why Finn felt the need to warn Sam quite so melodramatically. That conversation really did get to a "dude. stop digging." place.)
  • River Deep Mountain High. Legit diva.
  • Sam and Quinn - Aw. I really liked Quinn's reaction to him. It was very believeable.
  • Kurt's solo.

The Better

  • Tina and Mike - Cute!

The Best

  • Kurt and his dad. Always.

What Did I Think?

A return to form by concentrating on the characters instead of the gimmicks. More humor. Performances that highlight everyone and just look like fun - particularly Tina and Mike. (More Tina and Mike, for that matter.) I approve. Glee! Whee!
