Journey to Regionals
Glee Episode Review
In which there is singing and dancing. Glee's first season wraps up at Regionals with singing, dancing, babies, and several declarations of undying love and affection.
What Happened
Will is stunned to learn Sue is one of the judges for Regionals. The kids are ready to give up at the news, but Will inspires them to celebrate all they have accomplished with a Journey medley for the competition.
The performance is fantastic and the kids get a standing ovation. As Vocal Adrenaline launches into Bohemian Rhapsody, Quinn goes into labor. (Technically, these two things are not directly related. I mean, there's no cause and effect here.) She gives birth to a lovely little girl and the rest of the group rushes back for the awards ceremony. Hearing about the birth from Rachel, Shelby Cocoran later goes to the hospital to adopt little Beth.
Sue tries to make her pitch in the judge's room, but is roundly mocked by Josh Groban and Oliva Newton John for not being a real celebrity. Vocal Adrenaline are the winners. New Directions doesn't even place - leaving them facing the end of Glee Club.
Emma argues with Figgins, but it does no good. When she realizes how important Glee is to the kids, however, Sue blackmails Figgins one last time and gets him to give Will another year.
The Good
- Will and Emma. And then Will crying in the car. So awwww.
- Quinn going in labor at the most dramatically necessary moment. It's a rule of television.
- Of course I cried at To Sir With Love. Everyone else was.
The Better
- The New Directions performance at Regionals. (Particularly since they cut the performance at Sectionals a bit short.)
- Best use of Bohemian Rhapsody since Wayne and Garth.
- The Judging Room and ganging up on Sue.
- Emma really cuts loose on Figgins. That's some good shouting. She really means it.
The Best
- That Quinn's mother pulls her pearls out of her scrubs at the hospital.
What Did I Think?
I enjoyed it. I felt like it fit that they didn't win this year - that would have been a little too perfect.
