Hex

Hex is an... interesting show.

There are a lot of good points - interesting characters. Fast paced stories. Lots of humor. Fallen angels. Bat creatures. The works.

Unfortunately, the fallen angel spends more time lurking morosely under a tree instead of developing a character trait beyond "smoking." (His subsequent career proves that Michael Fassbender does have more than one facial expression, dammit.) And that story eventually moves so fast that it spins completely off the rails and into a very odd place. Like. Bondage club odd.

Only one of the characters manages to make it through without some kind of plot-manipulated about-face and I'm tempted to think that's solely because of the sheer willpower of the actress. That's Jemima Rooper as Thelma; excellent performance from her all the way through. Laura Pyper is also good as Ella, though there are more than a few loose ends to her character.

Christina Cole as Cassie is believable. Unfortunately, she's a believably obnoxious shallow teenager for most of it, which isn't exactly endearing. I fear I wonder why Azazeal bothered. And I'm sorry, but Cassie just spends way too much time standing in dark hallways jumping at things briefly glimpsed in the shadows while the soundtrack works overtime.

Despite - or maybe because of - the chaos, you will rarely be bored and there is a sizable chunk in the middle that is very good. Ella's appearance through Malachai's arrival in particular. It's worth a look.

Best Of

Spiral
The focus on Ella and Leon's little flirtation sets the base for their later relationship. It's refreshingly minus the naseuating "cute" and really works.
Ella Burns
Ella's meltdown is fantastic. Flashbacks mix with hallucinations as her fellow students get drawn into Azazeal's manipulations.

Worst Of

Possession
As much fun as Evil!Cassie is, the roundabout nature of the plot and assumption that we understand why Azazeal and Cassie are attracted to each other really pull it down.
The Showdown
Hate to bag on the series finale, but Ella's unconscious for most of it, Leon's pouting, and the whole thing comes down to how saintly Roxanne is? Pass.
