Pilot: Las Vegas Episode Review

In which Danny and his pickle are in a pickle all right.

What Happened

Danny's Very Bad Day starts off when his boss Big Ed catches him in bed with Ed's daughter Delinda. She insists that Daddy not kill or fire Danny, so Ed takes great pleasure in loading up the assignments on his protege: find a missing high-roller, keep an eye on a bum on a roll, find out how a cheater is winning, and clear one of the elevators of a couple having sex.

Neither Danny's best friend Mary Connell, Mike the hotel's valet, or the British pit boss Nessa can help find the high roller. The only lead is a local strip club and the news that the guy likes bathing in a particular type of champagne. The cheater, meanwhile, continues to win while Big Ed tries to track down a signal that may be feeding him information.

A tip-off about a Jacuzzi's worth of champagne leads Danny to "Sam, the biggest whale poacher in town." It turns out "Sam" is really Samantha Jane, a young woman who he dated... briefly. By offering Sam a steady job at the Monteceito, Danny is able to steal his whale back.

There is a mild problem, as Crazy Bunny Slippers Guy has gone on such a streak that he's been moved into a VIP suite. The whale's VIP suite. After getting a brainstorm about his cheater, Danny leaves Sam to take care of it and goes to track down a valet who seems permanently attached to his palm pilot.

The valet has been feeding readings from a camera on the cheater back to the man at the table, telling him what cards are being dealt. Nessa takes over the table and cons the cheater into putting all his winnings on the line. When he does, they bust him.

• Mary and Danny have been best friends since they were two.
• What Ed did to the last boy wasn't nice.

• Delinda may actually be worth getting killed for.
• Never sleep with a woman who's trying to piss off her father.
