In which Emerson has great taste in women. Pushing Daisies finally serves up Emerson's ex and she's worth the wait: Gina Torres!
A man named Raleigh is murdered and his family demands that Emerson find out who and why. What Emerson discovers is that his no-good child-stealing ex Lila Robinson is back in town. Originally engaged to Raleigh so that she could steal a precious ruby, Lila threw him over for Emerson. But the lure of the con was too much and Lila took their infant daughter and split town.
Now, Lila orders Emerson to clear her name or he will never see Penny again. A bit upset to be finding out about Emerson's past in this way, Simone is sure that Lila is lying and begins her own investigation. Emerson figures out that one of the farmers dependent on Raleigh's water killed him. With Simone's help, he finds the ruby and closes the case.
Afterwards, Lila meets Emerson and Emerson demands sole custody of their daughter. Lila pretends to accept the ultimatum, but tricks Emerson and drives off with Penny.
Love Gina Torres, of course. Pity she didn't have more to do, but I also like Simone getting some play.
