Angel's Flight

Pretender Episode Review

In which Jarod does not exactly blend in the Goth scene.

What Happened

Jarod spots a Missing Persons poster and is off in search of Jessica, a young woman dealing with her mother's suicide. She is obsessed with angels and falls under the spell of Hawk, a Goth "magician" who spends a lot of time talking about something called "Angel's Flight."

Already knowing that Angel's Flight was a dream Houdini had throughout his life, of breaking free his earthly bonds and soaring through the heavens, Jarod believes that Jessica found Hawk's files on his targets and realized it was a scam. Searching around, he finds her alive in a warehouse, where she had been left for dead.

Kessler, Hawk's guilt-ridden flunky, helps Jarod arrange Hawke's exposure to his followers. He taunts Hawke, who is poised on a rooftop. Having lost everything, Hawke goes for the Big Dramatic Gesture and jumps, landing on a safety mat, and Jarod turns on the Kreiglights to reveal his fate to everyone.

Back at the Centre, Parker, Sydney and Broots painstakingly assemble a wax head sent by Jarod, which turns out to be Mr. Cox, the new player sent in to take a special interest in their activities.

What We Learned

  • Jarod really wants a double-dip ice cream cone with granola sprinkles.
  • Alcatraz oysters can only be found in San Francisco Bay.
  • I never would have guessed.
  • Jarod is a very strange young man.
  • Jarod does not exactly blend in the Goth scene.
  • He did exercise some restraint with the eyeliner.
  • Everyone has demons.
  • Now Jarod's yanking Miss Parker's crank on an hourly basis.
  • Jarod never plays these games without substantial motivation.
  • Broots grew up in a mobile home, not a trailer park.
  • Timing is everything in the run for your life business.
  • Let's not polish each other's doorknobs just yet.
  • First rule of magic: never believe what you see.
  • Next time you toss someone off a building, make damn sure you clean up after yourself.

What Did I Think?

Right. Sure. Jessica survived a three story drop, being dragged into the basement of a warehouse and left for dead for three days. I totally believe that one.
