Baby Love

Pretender Episode Review

In which it's better to be lucky than good.

What Happened

Jarod is hiding from Miss Parker in a dumpster, when someone tosses a baby in next to him. Jarod, being Jarod, makes it all about him and his parents and his feelings of abandonment. He discovers that the child was dumped after his mother ran afoul of a district attorney seeking re-election and exposes the bad guy to his constituents.

Sydney and Miss Parker both get Broots to search for the significance of SL-27. He suggests that they share some information with each other, and to recall that everyone who knew anything is either dead or comatose. They eventually realize that the Centre has another sub-level that no one knows about.

SL-27 has obviously been destroyed by a fire. Sydney remembers that there was a rumor of a fire in the summer of '82, which supposedly left Raines "chained" to his oxygen tank. Fun finds to know and tell include: a dead body, a sim lab, and a birthing table with shackles for the expectant mother. A pile of files (brought down after the fire) pertain to the Pretender project, including a box on Jarod.

The signature on Jarod's entrance report was a special expediter, Sydney's brother Jacob. They don't have time to look through it all, however, after Raines begins a security sweep. When they go back later, everything is gone... taken by Angelo.

What We Learned

  • When in doubt, hide in a dumpster.
  • Angelo appears to be expressing his individualism.
  • Angelo appears to be shaving his head.
  • Miss Parker ran Centre security for three years.
  • Broots isn't sure his medical insurance covers this sort of thing.
  • Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good.
  • Jarod's parents were alive when he was brought to the Centre.
  • Caution is key.

What Did I Think?

More fun and games at the Centre while Jarod's Issues overcome his good sense, even if I did kind of like him with the baby.
