Curious Jarod
Pretender Episode Review
In which I kind of wish Jarod had made his escape in an Elvis costume.
What Happened
The brutal beating of a show-girl brings Jarod to Las Vegas.
The Good
- "We're nowhere. Except right where Jarod wants us." Miss Parker has such a grip on reality.
- Jarod vs. Elvis. Oh, someone has a twisted sense of humor. I could have sworn Jarod would make his escape in an Elvis costume.
- Figure eight as upright infinity. "Maybe your boy wonder has turned into Brian Boitano." Great contrast between Sydney and Parker.
- Elvis Impersonator scared "of him," of who he is without the costume. Nice parallel to Jarod and his pretends.
- With a flick of her eyebrow, Miss Parker implies that whatever weirdness Jarod is up to has to be Sydney's fault somehow.
- Sydney as the Man in the Yellow Hat. Quite appropriate.
The Bad
- It took them far too long to figure out that Jarod might be gambling in Vegas. On the other hand, we got to see Miss Parker intimidate the gangster.
- Jarod as professional kiss-ass. It has it's purpose within the story, but isn't especially interesting to watch.
The Cliche
- How many ways does Sydney have of saying, "Jarod?" just as Jarod hangs up on him.
- Confused? Break out a DSA; there's one for every occasion. Having covered JFK and Marilyn, who's next?
What Did I Think?
Jarod has something of a nasty streak of his own, leaving that guy to be smacked around... A good early episode.
