Pretender Episode Review

In which we learn that Broots used to have the entire Thunderbirds collection on View-master reel.

What Happened

Jarod sends Miss Parker a live lobster holding a View-master reel, sending her to Maine. He calls later, suggesting that he may know where her father is, and is willing to trade that for information about his own family. He sets up a lunch for her with her mother's old boyfriend, Ben.

A model who was being stalked supposedly drove her car into the river, so Jarod gets a job as a photographer. After the agency's newest star is targeted by the same nutcase, he spends a little time terrorizing some random blonde in order to get inside the stalker's head. Jarod comes to suspect that Kimberly may have faked her death in order to escape her life. He finds her and convinces Kimberly to trust him, explaining that he know exactly how it feels to be watched every second of your life. He explains that no one in the public knows who (new model) Cindy is; the stalker must be someone at the agency.

Jarod asks a photo editor name Toby to take picture of everyone who is at one of Cindy's photo shoots and shows the images to Kimberly. She doesn't recognize the eyes of the person who attacked her, but Jarod does spot the shadow of a figure behind a curtain: Agent Darin's assistant Ryan.

With Kimberly's help, Jarod puts some serious creep on poor Ryan. Then, he gets Toby a job and says good-bye to Kimberly and Cindy. Calling Miss Parker, he tells her where to find the last piece of the music box she's been assembling. It's a birthday present. My birthday isn't until January, she objects, which would be nine months after April, the month her mother always spent with Ben.

What We Learned

  • Miss Parker does not look like she drives a minivan.
  • A view-master with no reel. How tragically symbolic.
  • Broots used to have the entire Thunderbirds collection on View-master reel.
  • Hiding the lobster behind your back does not really keep people from seeing it.
  • It's the flaws that make a face interesting.
  • Miami has the best donuts.
  • Little known fact: lobsters make wonderful pets.
  • Miss Parker loved hearing it scream when she tossed it in the pot.
  • Broots doesn't usually remember his dreams.
  • Miss Parker is learning there are a lot of things her mother never told her.
  • Beauty is more than appearance. It's also about real emotion.

Best Lines

Miss Parker: "Where's Planned Parenthood when you need them?"

What Did I Think?

I don't remember them following up on the suggestion that Whatshisname was Miss Parker's father. Or maybe I just missed it.
