Pretender Episode Review
In which there are the fun facts to know and tell about Sydney.
What Happened
Jarod pulls a double-pretend: the doctor tending a boy in a coma and the new recruit to the gang of thrill seekers who put him there. Good old Zed is one of those "danger makes it worth it" types, as long as he's not the one who's really in any danger. Coma!Boy!Tony might have been annoyed that Zed lied when he claimed to know where Tony's absentee father was. And Tony might have rashly announced that he was going to tell the police that Zed staged a daring robbery. You know, instead of just going to the police and waving from the sidelines as they arrested Zed - he had to tell Zed first, giving Zed the opportunity to dump him off a short bridge with a long bungee cord.
You can guess how much sympathy I have for poor Tony. Anyways, Jarod keeps Tony's equally brain-dead sister from becoming Zed's latest red-shirt and puts his own little plan into action. Zed winds up confessing. Tony wakes up and there are hugs all around.
Off in the more interesting part of the episode: Jarod's trail of clues lead Miss Parker, Broots and Sydney in an examination of Mr. Lyle's extra-curricular activities. Trying to figure out what he had to do with a missing waitress from the local Chinese restaurant, they discover that Lyle may have kidnapped, tortured and killed her.
Isn't that nice?
What We Learned
- You don't need a blind-fold to jump off a bridge.
- Shae always wanted to be a hood ornament.
- Sydney doesn't eat rice.
- Free the brain: free the body. Free the body: free the soul.
- Sydney watches soaps. (What is with the fun facts to know and tell about Sydney this episode?)
- It's amazing what you can do with a pair of wire cutters and garage door opener.
What Did I Think?
After so many years of following Jarod around, watching him help people through his pretends, why is Sydney thinking that Jarod's clues represent "cries for help." They obviously represent whatever pretend he's getting ready for. Duh.
