At the Hour of Our Deaths

Pretender Episode Review

In which no one ever wakes up again until the drama is over.

What Happened

Jarod's plane goes down in Yosemite National Park, right about the time Miss Parker lands in the hospital. While Sydney and Broots hustle about trying to keep both their friends alive, the pair have matching flashbacks to Faith, a little girl they met in the Centre days before she died.

When Miss Parker wakes up, her father explains who Faith was: a little girl dying of leukemia, adopted by Mrs. Parker. Before the crash, Jarod was going to find Father Moore, an old friend of Mrs. Parker's, who takes him out of the hospital before the Centre arrives. He calls Miss Parker, who is recuperating at home, and they bond over their near-death experiences.

The Good

  • Seeing Jarod in a situation he can't pretend his way out of.
  • Mr. Parker being a human being.

The Bad

  • The -uh- genius might want to cover his head if he's that worried about freezing to death.

The Cliche

  • "It's not your time."
  • Ghostly visitors.
  • Taking the defibrulator up to the very limit.
  • They never wake up again until the drama is over.
  • People named "faith."

Lessons Learned

  • You get a little gas and people think you are dying.
  • They should at least wait until you keel over before they start worrying.
  • It sure made a happy girl out of Fanny.
  • Love transcends death.

What Did I Think?

It was sweet and all, but kind of dull. We get that Miss Parker and Jarod each had uniquely miserable childhoods. Can't they ever have the tiniest bit of joy?
