Pretender Episode Review
In which Sydney has a twin brother.
What Happened
Sydney's brother wakes up, thinking it's 1942. That attracts attention from Raines' assassin and makes Sydney very suspicious of Miss Parker when she shows up. They try to jog Jacob's memory, hoping that he can tell them about Mrs. Parker and Jarod's background. He dies first, however, having left behind only a cryptic clue for Sydney and Jarod.
As for Jarod? Blah blah race team blah sad racing footage blech family issues ho hum experienced driver who obvioulsy never considered saving his cash for retirement instead of blowing it on hookers and booze is threatened by up-and-comer and arranges an "accident" for him.
What Did I Think?
Nice performance from Patrick Bachaeu, but otherwise?.
We start with scene that we know right away is a dream sequence because of the wind-chimes.
We follow that up with Jarod's plot, which includes a father with two sons, one good and one eeevil. Ordinarily that wouldn't end well, but they've decided to go for the cliche behind door number two, labeled "Kill the Competition. No. Literally." It's a switch, but I still don't care for any of these people.
Sydney's twin brother Jacob, meanwhile, suffers from a mysterious virus that wakes him up from his coma just long enough to drop some cryptic clues, but which will kill him by the end of the episode? I guess they had to move him in and out of the story, while giving a reason that he couldn't just tell someone what he knew. It's still awfully convenient.
Finally, there's "Gene" as Jacob's clue and everyone starts going, "Who's Gene?" Please. Don't. Obviously, it isn't a person but rather a reference to Jarod's genetics. Don't assume that I'm stupid.
The only real point of interset is that Sydney admits that he tried to kill Dr. Raines, which had been alluded to, but I hadn't seen confirmed. (Huh. Cool.)
