Pretender Episode Review

In which champagne isn't good for Miss Parker's ulcer.

What Happened

Jarod is busy setting up a Marine Patrol Officer who might have had something to do with the death of a pair of refugees during a storm. With a hurricane about to land in Florida, he leaves Bartlett dangling in a net trap, then goes back for the orphaned little girl and finds Miss Parker waiting for him.

Everyone is stranded in the motel, where the storm outside has nothing on Miss Parker and Jarod. They argue about a medical record showing Mrs. Parker recovering from a beating, mere months before her "suicide." Jarod tells Miss Parker that her mother was planning on smuggling him out of the Centre. Waiting out the rainstorm, Miss Parker does remember seeing Mr. Raines leaving the night her mother was beaten.

As the storm ends, Jarod manages to slip away and steals Sydney and Broots' helicopter to get away. Miss Parker goes back to the Centre and explains the deal to her father and Raines: She catches Jarod her way and once he's back, she's gone.

What We Learned

  • Gator Heaven has the finest gator wrestling in all of Southern Florida.
  • Champagne isn't good for Miss Parker's ulcer.
  • Neither is Jarod.
  • Daddy doesn't give her what she wants.
  • Mrs. Parker was manic-depressive.
  • When you spend an entire life simulating reality, consequences feel pretty good.
  • Sam doesn't have the authorization to kill Jarod.

Best Lines

Sydney: "What happened to you?"
Raines: "Too many cigarettes. Not enough vacations."

What Did I Think?

That's good. Even the baddie (Jeremy Roberts) was interesting enough to keep up with sticking Jarod and Miss Parker in the same room for an extended period of time.
