Mr. Lee

Pretender Episode Review

I Predict

This set-up screams "clip show," but you never know. I will, however, dub it one of the best ever if someone anyone points out how Jarod always terrorizes the bad guys into confessing. Those tapes he leaves behind cannot hold up well in court.

What Happened

Mr. Lee, a strange blind Chinese man, wanders about interviewing seven people he believes will allow him to predict where Jarod will go. Unfortunately, he's left it to his assistant to do all the heavy-lifting, research-wise, and when she realizes that Jarod is attempting to free her disabled nephew from an institution, she turns on Lee and helps Jarod escape.

Was I Right?

Yup. Clip show. James Hong added some class, and the clips chosen were very good. They covered the range of Jarod's usual routine: one of the kids, the arrogant evil-doers, the women he was constantly "connecting" with, and one of the "quirky" ones with Elvis.

The framing story, meanwhile, made sense and had enough variety to hold interest. In the background, we got another round of Centre in-fighting. I swear, I'm not all that surprised they haven't caught Jarod yet. Let's face it, if they spent half as much time looking as they do snarling at each other, superior resources alone would make Jarod's life much more difficult. On the other hand, the sight of Brigette jumping up and down in frustration as Miss Parker and Lyle showed up was priceless.

Best Lines

Broots: "Most people you talk to haven't ever seen an old blind Chinese man. At least not since Kung Fu"
Miss Parker: "Well done, grasshopper."

Broots: "Miss Parker! That's a wall."
Miss Parker: "Yeah. And this is a rental."

Miss Parker: "A blind Chinese man, a limo and a bimbo. How hard can that be to find?"

What Did I Think?

A well-done clip show, but not the best ever.
