A Virus Among Us

Pretender Episode Review

In which Jarod gives Miss Parker a cold.

What Happened

After terrorizing a high school biology class for a while, Jarod's new interest is biological and communicable diseases, including the flu bug he leaves for Miss Parker. His new job is to find out what happened to a missing scientist from an infectious disease containment lab. Having realized that Garber was working on a deadly new virus and killed Florence when he threatened to destroy it, Jarod guilts his sidekick into admitting the role he played in covering up when Florence was contaminated and the decon shower didn't work. Jarod then does that thing where he sets it up so that Garber thinks he's been infected by his virus and Garber confesses.

In other news: someone sends Sydney a box labelled "Your Legacy," containing clippings from all the horrible things the Centre did with Jarod's simulations. Sydney tracks Jarod down, face to face, to ask his forgiveness for keeping him in the Centre. Jarod refuses; there will be no forgiveness until he finds his family.

What We Learned

  • Working up the school lunch schedule can be so exhausting.
  • It's a never-ending cat gut nightmare.
  • Mr. Raines hasn't been in the lab for ten years.
  • Watching someone suffer can have an affect on you.
  • Jarod has conducted a symphony here or there.
  • Subtlety is a virtue in any form.
  • Awful things swirl beneath the healthiest of exteriors.

Best Lines

Kid: "He told us that roaches would be the only survivor left after a biological holocaust. That, and some woman named Parker."

Jarod: "It takes a long time to master music."
Ben: "A lifetime wouldn't be time enough for me. My music kills plant life."

What Did I Think?

I rather liked the musician in the next apartment.
