The Amount
Push Nevada Episode Review
In which "We don't have enough abacai."
What Happened
IRS agent Jim Prufrock goes to Push, Nevada to investigate a mysterious fax that points to fraud going on at a local casino.
The Good
- Guy in a tub of ice. Guy from the tub of ice in a sewer tunnel, then a bank vault. That's ... new.
- Nice tattoos, Job. Nice abs, too.
- A motel made of tastefully decorated mobile homes. Huh. That's cool.
- "I just told you how to cheat on your taxes." Well, he knows how to impress the girls. And does she feel the need to insert his name into every single sentence?
- "It would be apparent to anyone with a G.E.D. and an abacus." The menacing mob man is a cliche, but this guy is scary.
The Bad
- If the TV show is Alias, then it must be Sunday. Why would Jim be traveling on a Sunday?
The Cliche
- Jim orders a non-alcoholic beer. That's the kind of order that'll get you beat up in most quirky towns...
- ...Nah, we'll skip to the femme fatale and her single entendres.
- Mysterious shadows figures. How X-Files. Or more than a little Flash Gordon. "I'm bored, Cleitus."
- And the requisite dead body. (Botnick.)
What Did I Think?
Any show that has an IRS agent as the hero... And he's a little Dylan McDermott around the edges, which doesn't hurt.
